The Minnesota Land Trust, the City of Winona, and Hennepin County have contracted Rock Leaf to write habitat management plans (HMPs) for properties ranging in size from 75 acres to over 800 acres within various counties across Minnesota.

This process includes site visits to identify the native plant communities (NPCs), other land cover types, and best management practices. Rock Leaf staff have thus far identified over 30 unique NPCs and navigated various other land cover types such as pine plantations, food plots, restored grasslands, and prairie-woodland complexes.

Once the plant communities are understood, Rock Leaf staff consider the ecology, easement restrictions, and landowner requests to determine recommended management practices, which include but are not limited to native seedings, invasive species control, prescribed burns, prescribed grazing, and prescribed mowing/haying where appropriate.
